Planning Secured for Middlewich
Henderson Homes and McCarthy and Stone, the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, have been granted planning permission by Cheshire East Council for their housing developments at Wheelock Street, Middlewich.
Members of the Southern Planning Committee voted 10-1 to approve the application to redevelop the disused site with high quality residential housing and Retirement Living apartments (complete with three retail units). The planning officer’s recommendation was to approve.
Henderson Homes will develop part of the site with 35 high-quality two and three bedroom homes and one bedroom apartments. McCarthy and Stone’s scheme will convert the other part into 50 Retirement Living apartments, complete with enhanced landscaping and on-site parking.
McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living apartments are specifically designed to meet the needs of people in later life, offering homeowners an active, independent lifestyle in a safe and secure environment. Typically, occupants of these apartments are looking to ease the burden of maintaining a larger property, in turn releasing these homes onto the market for local families looking to move up the property ladder.
Following the decision, Adam Mooij, Deputy Regional Managing Director, North West, for McCarthy and Stone, said: “We are delighted that our joint scheme with Henderson Homes has been approved by local councillors. The proposals will see what local residents refer to as “an eyesore”, in the heart of Middlewich transformed into much-needed retirement and residential accommodation. We look forward to being part of the community”
Jonathan Hill, Land Director at Henderson Homes said, “It is fantastic that local councillors have approved the proposals, which will allow us to provide 35 much needed homes in this central location. We have devoted a huge amount of time and effort to deliver a scheme that will complement the town and which we believe, is right for Middlewich.”
